For tredje år på rad arrangerer Nerdrum Museum – i samarbeid med Sjøparken, Thor Heyerdahl Instituttet ved Vestfoldmuseene og den kulturelle brobyggerorganisasjonen CAN – Earth and East festivalen.
Earth and East Festival er en unik, fire dager lang kulturfestival ved Nerdrum Museum i Stavern, og bygger videre på suksessen fra i fjor, da over 4000 besøkende deltok, og har som mål å skape en inkluderende møteplass hvor kunst, kultur og tradisjon bringer mennesker sammen på tvers av grenser.
Med utgangspunkt i ideen om universelle språk – som musikk, mat, folkedrakter, tekstiler, håndverk og poesi og litteratur, inviterer festivalen publikum til å oppleve og dele levende kulturuttrykk fra østen.
Årets festival henter inspirasjon fra Silkeveien, og utforsker forbindelser mellom kulturer fra Europa til Asia – i tråd med oppdagelsesånden til Thor Heyerdahl.
Gjennom fire innholdsrike dager kan publikum oppleve konserter fra Statstrioen fra Kasakhstan, Forte Trio med Timur Urmancheyev, Maxat Jussupov og Murat Narbekov, og norsk-aserbajdsjanske Marie Sahba, norsk-serbiske Etno gruppa «Ras», foredrag om Thor Heyerdahl, Slavisk poesi, høytlesning av barneboken fra Aserbajdsjan "Jirtdan in Oslo”, ansiktsmaling til barn, samt utstillinger av tradisjonelle drakter fra Romania av Snejana Rogozenco, workshop av Kitch designer Eline Dragesund og workshop om broderier fra Romania for både voksne og barn av Snejana Rogozenco. Festivalen løfter også frem kulturer og land som ikke alltid får en naturlig plass i det offentlige rom, og skaper en arena for dialog og gjensidig respekt.

Earth & East Festival 2026
For the third year in a row, the Nerdrum Museum – in collaboration with Sjøparken, the Thor Heyerdahl Institute - Vestfold Museums, and the cultural bridge-building organization CAN – is proud to present the Earth & East Festival.
Earth & East Festival is a unique four-day cultural festival held at the Nerdrum Museum in Stavern. Continuing on last year’s success, which attracted more than 4,000 visitors, the festival aims to create an inclusive meeting place where art, culture, and tradition bring people together across borders.
Rooted in the idea of universal languages — such as music, food, national costumes, textiles, craftsmanship, poetry, and literature, the festival invites audiences to experience and share vibrant cultural expressions from the East.
This year’s festival draws inspiration from the Silk Road, exploring the connections between cultures stretching from Europe to Asia, in the spirit of discovery inspired by Thor Heyerdahl.
Throughout four eventful days, visitors can enjoy concerts by the State Trio from Kazakhstan, Forte Trio featuring Timur Urmancheyev, Maxat Jussupov, and Murat Narbekov, as well as Norwegian-Azerbaijani artist Marie Sahba and the Norwegian-Serbian ethno group “Ras.” The program also includes lectures on Thor Heyerdahl, Slavic poetry, a reading of the Azerbaijani children’s book “Jirtdan in Oslo,” face painting for children, exhibitions of traditional Romanian costumes by Snejana Rogozenco, a workshop by kitsch designer Eline Dragesund, and embroidery workshops inspired by Romanian traditions for both adults and children, led by Snejana Rogozenco.
The festival also highlights cultures and countries that do not always receive a natural place in the public sphere, creating an arena for dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect.
